2023-04-14On April 13th, a Brazilian delegation of over 20 people, including congressmen and congress women from Brazilian federal legislative branch, visited the R&D and Innovation center set up by Suzano at the Zhangjiang Science City in Shanghai. As the world’s leading pulp producer and a global reference in manufacturing bioproducts from eucalyptus cultivation, the company inaugurated its Chinese Innovability Hub last month.
Under the witness of the delegation, the “China-Brazil Agriculture and Forestry Science and Education Innovation Alliance” was unveiled, with Suzano’s partner South China Agricultural University taking the lead.
To further promote agro-forestry science and education cooperation with Brazil, the South China Agricultural University also awarded Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva the title of Honorary Professor, with a representative from the delegation receiving the honorary credential on behalf of Lula.
The hub that the delegation visited is designed to promote collaboration between industry players and other local stakeholders. The establishment of the Innovability Hub represents Suzano’s long-term strategic efforts to create an open innovation and transformative platform in China and stimulate sustainable development through Innovability – the model conceived by the company that combines Innovation with Sustainability.
“China’s carbon neutral agenda has been evolving rapidly and constantly, and we are excited about the possibility of supporting the country in its transition to a low carbon economy by supplying bio-based raw materials,” said Pablo Machado, President of Asia Business (Beyond Pulp) at Suzano.
Besides inaugurating the Innovability Hub in Shanghai, Suzano also announced three important agreements with Chinese partners in recent weeks. The company signed an agreement with COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers on the construction of five ships to transport pulp, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the China Forestry Group on the collaboration in bio-based materials and carbon, and for investments in Research and Development (R&D) and a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the South China Agricultural University.
