Shanghai, June 16, 2023 – Suzano, the world’s leading producer of market pulp, has received the Green Sustainable Development Contribution Award at the 2023 International Green Zero-Carbon Festival held in Beijing on June 15, 2023. The award was granted by the festival’s organizing committee, which consists of some of China’s most influential research institutions, consultancies and media outlets. Last year, Suzano received the ESG Model Enterprise Award, making this the second consecutive year that Suzano has received an award at the festival.

The International Green Zero-Carbon Festival gathers together more than 1,000 delegates working in policy, business, academia, and the media, alongside companies exhibiting their goals, strategies and best practices aimed at supporting China in achieving a net zero economy.

The awards program has been designed to recognize companies with outstanding contributions to green energy, carbon reduction, technology innovation, and protection of the natural environment. This year judges focused on the “influence, innovativeness, empowerment, and foresight” of candidate companies’ business activities.

Pablo Machado, President of Asia (Business Management) at Suzano, said:We are honored to receive an award at the festival again. This is a great recognition of our efforts and achievements in sustainable development so far. Moving ahead, we look forward to further engaging with our local stakeholders to support China’s ‘dual-carbon’ ambition. China’s promising economic growth and current market size are generating significant demand for a variety of high-value bio-based raw materials. As a bio-based business, our company is in an excellent position to contribute to China’s transition to a low carbon economy.”

Suzano is dedicated to helping advance China’s carbon-neutral agenda through its leading role in “Innovability”, the pursuit of sustainable solutions via innovation.

This year, Suzano launched its Innovability Hub in Shanghai, which is Suzano’s first R&D and innovation center in Asia. The Hub reflects Suzano’s long-term strategic efforts to create an open and transformative innovation platform for sustainable solutions in China and is focused on addressing customers’ evolving needs for pulp and new bio-based materials and applications.

In addition, Suzano has signed strategic cooperation agreements with several institutions and universities in China on the research and development of bio-based materials, launched a sustainability program together with a key customer and a key supplier in China aimed at enhancing the awareness of sustainability among the younger generation, and initiated an open call for start-ups in China to empower bio-economy visionaries in the local market by offering financial support and resources.
